MAGNUS BJORNSSON

Jorfor's brother was always more of a warrior than his brother.

He left their home in his youth to seek fame and adventure. As was uncommon for a Norseman, he travelled into the east. There he experienced many adventures and saw many great things. He spent time in Holmgard where he claims to have met a young prince Jarizleifr (later Yaroslav I, Grand Prince of Rus). Eventually he reached Miklagarðr (Constantinople) and was considered enough of a skilled warrior that he joined the Varangian Guard under Emperor Constantine VII. With them he fought against the Arabs in both Syria and Crete.

It was during his time among the Varangi, that he converted to Christianity. When his Emperor died, he took part in the practise of Polutasvarf ("palace pillaging"); the Varangians had the unique right of running to the imperial treasury and taking as much gold and as many gems as they could carry. Magnus left the Guard after this, spending a great potion of his wealth in the city, until purely by chance he was discovered by Jorfor, Bjorn and Skmaere in the gutter of a street in Miklagarðr and taken back home.
